India team for last three Windies ODIs announced

India team for last three Windies ODIs announced: Indian selectors have announced a 15-member squad for the last three ODIs.

Indian selectors have announced the ODI squad for the last three ODIs of the ongoing five-match series against Windies. Among the notable changes are the respective callbacks for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah in place of Mohammad Shami.

After winning the first ODI in Guwahati by 8 wickets, India failed to restrict Windies under 321 as the second ODI at Visakhapatnam ended in a nerve-wrenching tie. India had announced the team for the first two squads with an eye on the World Cup next year.

That being said, given the way the opposition has played, especially batted, in the first two ODIs, it has forced India to bring back their premier pace duo of Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah. Having conceded 320+ totals twice in two matches, this decision was always on the cards.

Both of them had last played an ODI for India last month, when India beat Bangladesh by 3 wickets in the final of the Asia Cup.

The 14-member squad has been increased to 15 for the last three ODIs. Axing Mohammad Shami might just be a sign for him not being part of the selectors’ plans for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. In the two ODIs which Shami played after more than a year, his three wickets came at an average of 46.66, an economy rate of 7 and a strike rate of 40.

Yadav, on the other hand, has picked a lone wicket in the two ODIs. Perhaps, his recent Test form came to his rescue.

Kedar Jadhav, who injured his hamstring during the final of the Asia Cup, has not been included despite recovering from his injury. In which was his first match post the injury, coming in to bat at No. 5, he scored 41* (25) with the help of two fours and two sixes against India C in Deodhar Trophy today. Maybe, the selectors wanted to give more chances to Rishabh Pant at No. 6.

The third ODI of the series will be played on the day after tomorrow, i.e., October 27 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
