Indian cricket team new head coach: CoA defends Virat Kohli voicing opinion in Ravi Shastri's favour

Indian cricket team new head coach: CoA has found no fault with the Indian captain sharing his views on India’s new head coach.

The position of the coach of the Indian cricket team is such that its appointment has it in it to invite plentiful opinions from all corners of the cricketing fraternity in the nation. One such opinion which has been doing the rounds of late if India captain Virat Kohli speaking in favour of current head coach Ravi Shastri.

“The CAC hasn’t contacted me yet. If they want my opinion, I’ll go and speak to them. With Ravi [Shastri] Bhai, we share a great camaraderie, and will definitely be very happy if he continues. But I haven’t been contacted so far,” Kohli was quoted as saying while speaking leaving for West Indies.

Since then, several experts and former cricketers have voiced their opinion on Kohli stating that the Indian captain shouldn’t have made a public statement about the selection of the Indian coach.

Much like former captain Sourav Ganguly, a CoA member hasn’t found any fault with Kohli expressing his opinion about the Indian coach. Speaking in an interview with IANS, the member brought “freedom of speech” into play and said that Kohli voicing his opinion doesn’t matter much as it will be the CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) who will select the new coach.

“This is his [Virat Kohli] opinion and he has expressed it and this is a democratic country so we cannot stop someone from saying something. Why should every word of every individual matter? He may be captain of the team, but there is the CAC and it is for them to take a call on this [appointing coach].

“There are millions of people living in this country and you cannot stop people from making their opinions known. It will be needed to be seen how the CAC interprets the statement from Kohli. Everyone has a way of doing things,” the member was quoted as saying.
