Rajasthan Royals to support pink jersey: The IPL franchise will don a new kit in the upcoming season of the cash-rich league.

Rajasthan Royals, who won the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League in 2008, have announced that they will support a pink colour kit in the upcoming edition of the IPL. Announced during a feature show on Star Sports, the episode saw Royals captain Ajinkya Rahane with other players.

Having donned the pink jersey during one of the matches last season, Royals have completely shelved their trademark blue jersey. Legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne, who mentors the franchise, and Rahane disclosed that they had supported the pink jersey to spread cancer awareness last season.

Having said that, affirmative reactions from their fans on the pink jersey made the franchise to announce the change. “We wore pink for cancer awareness in one match last year and the fans loved it. Then we thought that Jaipur is the pink city and we should be wearing pink,” Rahane was quoted saying.

Elaborating more on the cancer awareness, Warne said that their home city of Jaipur being called the ‘Pink city’ further encouraged them to make the transition.

“I think when we think back the last year and we joined forces with cancer charities and raised awareness about that, the fans coming back and saying we love the Royals in pink. We all started thinking that may be we should do it full time.

“We then started elaborating that and exploring, Jaipur is the pink city and we thought let’s go with it. The players are looking forward to wearing it and more importantly, the fans they absolutely love it. I think the boys will be rocking the pink this year,” Warne added.

All-rounder Shreyas Gopal, who is expected to start in Royals’ playing XI in the initial matches, came up with a hilarious incident where he let out Warne’s eating habits and talked about how can’t even think of digesting that amount of food.

“He has butter naan with tomato sauce and he loves it. Then 20 scoops of ice cream and french fries – he loves all of that and I saw that and was like I can’t digest that,” Gopal said.
