During the final of the ongoing Duleep Trophy between India Blue and India Red at Dindigul, India Red wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan tried to emulate former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni. To everyone’s surprise, Kishan had almost achieved success with his attempt.
It happened when India Blue’s Ricky Bhui played a shot through the covers against India Red’s leg-spinner Mihir Hirwani. As the ball was played, Bhui had immediately decided to run a single. Anmolpreet Singh, who was at the non-striker’s end, responded well to the call and took off instantly.
The mid-off fielder ran quickly to his left to collect and the ball and throw it back to the wicket-keeper who was ready to attempt a run-out. Kishan, who had run a couple of steps towards the ball, collected it and threw it between his legs in a bid to hit the stumps. The ball had hit the stumps but by that time the non-striker was comfortably home.

It is worth mentioning that Kishan and Dhoni come from the same state of Jharkhand. As is the case with most of the cricketers from that state, Kishan is an apprentice of Dhoni. Most recently, he was also vocal about how several meetings and tips from Dhoni in the recent times have helped him in improving both his batting and wicket-keeping skills.
Faiz Fazal, captain of India Blue, had earlier won the toss and chose to bat. After a 50-run opening partnership between Fazal and Smit Patel, the opposition bowlers were successful enough to dismiss four batsmen in the span of next 57 runs.
At the time of writing this article, Bhui and Anmolpreet are staging a comeback partnership for their team. The duo has already added 71 runs for the fifth wicket to help their team in setting up a decent total.
