Club owners have announced the installation of Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League.
Former Kerala Blasters CEO Varun Tripuraneni and Andhra Pradesh businessman Vijay Madduri have confirmed the inception of the new Indian Super League (ISL) club Hyderabad FC, based out of Hyderabad. This newly-formed club will take part in the upcoming 2019/20 Indian top-flight campaign.
The Wadhawan Group-owned FC Pune City have drawn curtains following financial constraints and their right to participation in the Indian Super League has now been transferred to Hyderabad. Although the team is rumoured to play in Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, there is no official confirmation about the venue from the owners.
As a fresh outfit, the Andhra based club is set to escape the one-year transfer ban, which was handed out to Pune City FC. The former ISL club were found guilty of tapping up Chennai City midfielder Nestor Gordilla, who was even suspended from the I-League action for four months with a hefty fine.
Vijay is excited about this new venture, “I am thrilled and proud to be a co-owner of the club and I look forward to playing a significant role in developing football in the state, reviving its past glory. Sports has always been in my DNA and I am extremely happy to have a chance to contribute in this field”.
Commenting on his new venture, Varun Tripuraneni said, “It is a proud moment for me, to be co-owner of Hyderabad FC. Hyderabad is a city with a great football culture. I look forward to working with key stakeholders and building a strong foundation for the club, which will eventually contribute to the society and do the city proud. Our immediate task is to prepare for the new season.“
The Indian Super League have released the fixtures for the upcoming campaign. The inaugural game of the sixth season will see Kerala Blasters take on ATK in Kochi on October 20.
