India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the forthcoming limited-overs series against Australia and New Zealand. The development has come as an aftermath of the 25-year old cricketer’s heavy workload across formats for more than a year now.
Bumrah was rested “keeping in mind the work load of the bowler”, according to a BCCI release. He will be back in action during the limited-overs series against Australia at home in February-March.
Bumrah was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded Test series against Australia. He picked up 21 wickets in four matches at an average of 17, an economy rate of 2.27 and a strike rate of 44.9.
Apparently, he also bowled the most number of overs (157.1) by a fast bowler in four matches. With Bumrah having bowled 511.3 overs across formats in 2018, resting him ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 seems to be a well-planned idea.

Mohammad Siraj, who has played three T20Is for India, has been named as Bumrah’s replacement for both the series. India have added an extra fast bowler in Siddarth Kaul for the T20Is against New Zealand.
India will play three ODIs against Australia, the first one of which will be played on January 12 at Sydney. After playing the last one on January 18, India will move to New Zealand for a five-match ODI series and three-match T20I series, the first one of which will be played on January 25 at Napier.

It’s a great decision to rest him against the Aussies but I still think he should have played the New Zealand series….that will be a great series
