Jurgen Klopp's wife asked him not to do Manchester United job

Jurgen Klopp’s wife asked him not to take Manchester United job, as she felt it was not right; the German was offered the job twice by the club.

Manchester United fans probably envy Liverpool for having a manager like Jurgen Klopp at the helm, who transformed the club in around 4 years from an average Premier League side to world and league champions.

However, little people know but Klopp allegedly had to refuse the Manchester United job because his wife advised him to do so, while the manager was still in Germany managing Borussia Dortmund.

Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson opened up about the situation further and said the following to Norwegian television channel TV2 on Friday: “I interviewed Klopp for Sky, and I asked if he and Liverpool were created for each other. He looked at me and asked ‘Why?’.

“Then Klopp told me he could have taken over Manchester United but his wife said it wasn’t right. When Liverpool arrived, his wife said it was right. There is something strange there. It’s as if he is created for Liverpool.”

Back in 2013 Klopp was one of the favourite candidates to be the successor of Sir Alex Ferguson but he did not make a move, then a few months later when David Moyes was sacked, he was offered the role once again.

However, it wouldn’t be entirely true to speculate that Klopp didn’t make a move because of his wife, as there were other aspects too. He had just won the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and led them to a Champions League final and didn’t want to leave the amazing project he had created. The same with the season later.

When Liverpool came calling, however, Klopp had just “resigned” as Borussia Dortmund lingered in the relegation zone for the majority of the season, and the Reds made the move at the right time.
