Karanveer Kaushal slams the first double century in Vijay Hazare

Karanveer Kaushal slams the first double century in Vijay Hazare: Uttarakhand’s opening batsman plays a record-breaking knock.

During the ongoing match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy between Uttarakhand and Sikkim at Nadiad, Uttarakhand’s opening batsman Karanveer Kaushal became the first batsman to score a double century in the history of Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Earlier, Nilesh Lamichaney, captain of Sikkim, had won the toss and put the opposition in to bat, a decision which he would have regretted later on. Kaushal, a 27-year old right-hand batsman from Dehradun, came out to open the innings with his opening partner in veteran Rajasthan batsman, Vineet Saxena.

The duo stitched a 296-run opening partnership, a stand which had frustrated the opposition bowlers to the core. Saxena, who ended up scoring 100 (133) with the help of four fours, was the first Uttarakhand batsman to get out.

Kaushal continued in the same manner as he eventually reached the milestone. On the back of Kaushal’s 202 (135), Uttarakhand scored 366-2 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. Kaushal’s innings comprised of 18 fours and nine sixes. With bowling figures of 10-0-82-2, Mandup Bhutia was the pick of the bowlers from Sikkim.

Both the teams are part of the newly-created Plate Group of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. This group all the nine new teams in the competition. With players from these teams making a mark, one can assume the talent which is prevalent in these untouched territories.

At the time of writing this article, Sikkim were reeling at 87-4 in 29 overs. To win the match, they need a further 280 runs in 21 overs at a whopping required run rate of 13.33.

Kaushal’s whirlwind innings was noticed by the followers of Vijay Hazare Trophy on social media platform Twitter. Watch some of the recent reactions:
