Reports in the Finnish media had claimed that Kimi Raikkonen was in discussions with Toyota for joining their World Rally Championship team.
During Raikkonen’s two-year break from Formula 1, he did appear in a few rally races and thus the rumour mill suspected that Raikkonen could go down that road in the future.
However, Raikkonen laughed off the reports, terming them as ‘rumours’.
Raikkonen’s WRC days go back to 2010 when he drove the Citroen. The following year he entered his own team called Ice 1 racing.
“If you speak to the lady who write it you’ll probably find out there’s not much knowledge about racing or anything else,” said Raikkonen.
“It’s rumours and [their] ideas.
“For sure I’m interested in rallying whenever I stop, that’s not a secret
“But I have zero contract to do it, anyway. People keep writing things but not really my issue.” he added.
Raikkonen actually found the report a little funny when he saw it first, especially when it claimed that Mika Hakkinen.
“The funny part was that it said – I saw it, somebody told me about it – that Mika Hakkinen confirmed it.
“Honestly, the lady who wrote it, and him, how much do they know about my life? Zero.” he added.
Toyota has just returned to the World Rally Championship and competes with the Yaris Model. They would have been looking a marquee signing and thus the reason for the rumour mill linking them to Kimi Raikkonen.
Raikkonen’s F1 future seems a little uncertain but with the way he is driving this season and the partnership that Vettel and he share, it looks unlikely if Ferrari would try and push him out.
