Shivam Mavi ruled out of IPL 2019: The Kolkata Knight Riders seamer has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders seem to be walking on the same road on which they walked before IPL 2018. With the news of another seamer in Shivam Mavi being ruled out of the tournament, KKR have received a couple of similar blows on the same day.

Earlier in the day, seamer Kamlesh Nagarkoti was ruled out from the tournament because of an injury. Kerala seamer Sandeep Warrier was named as Nagarkoti’s replacement.

Before IPL 2018, Knight Riders had missed the services of Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc and Nagarkoti because of their respective injuries.

Both Mavi and Nagarkoti were India U-19’s new-ball bowlers during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2018. Regarding them as future prospects, the Knight Riders had bought them during the IPL auction before IPL 2018.

Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna, who was called-in as Nagarkoti’s replacement last season, has now been inducted as a permanent member of the squad. In what was his maiden IPL season last year, Krishna had dismissed 10 batsmen in seven matches at an average of 26, an economy rate of 9.26 and a strike rate of 16.80.

On the other hand, Mavi picked up five wickets in nine matches at an average of 54, an economy rate of 9.54 and a strike rate of 33.60. While his numbers weren’t worthy of being bragged, the teenager had bowled with heart throughout the tournament.

Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik was seen expressing approval of the right-hand pacer despite him conceding runs. Mavi has succumbed to a stress fracture on his back and is expected to be out of action for at least six months.

How Twitter reacted:

Knight Riders will play their first match of IPL 2019 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 24.
