The Coutinho transfer saga is getting really messy.
It has been widely been reported that Coutinho has already agreed personal terms with Barcelona, and now it is only left for the two clubs to decide upon a fee.
Coutinho has been identified by the Barcelona brass as someone who could fill Iniesta’s huge shoes. The legendary Spanish play maker is on the decline, as his imperious career is slowly but surely coming to a close.
While Liverpool have maintained that they will not sell Coutinho, there is a sense within the club that a bid over 100 million might be enough to seal the deal.
But Barcelona are not yet willing to pay such fee. They have proposed two swap deals with Liverpool, but both have been rejected out of hand. Klopp does not want either of Rafinha or Andre Gomes as part of the swap deal for Coutinho.
The Liverpool boss may be ready to do business if Ivan Rakitic is included in the deal though. Klopp is a fan of the Croatian, and realizes that if he will be getting a high quality player in the middle of the park.
This puts Barcelona in a fix as they realize that they will need to shell out the money or risk losing Coutinho this summer. With Neymar already out of the door, Barcelona will need to appease their supporters with a big summer signing.
Klopp will be hoping Coutinho still stays, but its look like he is fighting a losing battle. Might as well get the Croatian right ?
