Leclerc responds to Ferrari rumours
Charles Leclerc is one of the hottest properties in F1 as of now as he has driven like a champion in his maiden F1 season. He has also made it to the top of the charts of the ‘rumour list’, with his ‘imminent’ transfer to Ferrari being the talk of the town.
Leclerc’s apparent pre-contract with Ferrari would mean an end to the Kimi-Ferrari relationship and the Finn should be on the move, if he is not ready to quit the sport all together.
Ricciardo too is on the driver market and would be looking for alternatives, if Red Bull don’t come up with a fair deal for the Australian.
The rumours around Leclerc claim that the 20 year old Sauber driver has already signed a deal with Ferrari, and will earn $5 million for his two year contract.
However, Leclerc has squashed all such rumours, saying that no contract has been signed with Ferrari and all the rumours are just ‘rumours’.
“No, I haven’t signed a contract” he said.
“To be honest there are absolutely no talks going on” he added.
The rumours came into being, one because of his scintillating performances, but also because he was a part of the Ferrari driver academy.
Leclerc has clarified that the development programme comes to an end after joining F1, and that he doesn’t have any ‘official’ links to Ferrari at the moment.
He also expressed his ‘surprise’ at not having been asked this question during the press conference on Thursday.
While Leclerc may have dismissed all rumours, the smile on his face suggested that he was desperately trying to hide something.
