Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero first met each other at the Argentina youth teams and have since then gone on to strike a wonderful friendship.
The pair have always been very close, and have a great equation both on and off the pitch. Messi is a huge fan of Aguero and had recommended his name the Barcelona board when they were looking to find a suitable replacement for David Villa.
Aguero though was very happy with Manchester City and did not want leave England, which is why he declined Barcelona’s approach. Barcelona did not rue his decision though, as they instead brought in Luis Suarez, who formed one of the greatest trios with Messi and Neymar, firing them to a treble in his very first season.
Sergio Aguero has developed as one of the greatest strikers to grace the Premier League, as the Argentine striker is arguably the greatest player in the history of the Manchester club.
He is the highest goal in the club’s history, and has also scored the most number of goals by a non-European player in the Premier league, making him a legend of the English game.
Aguero is having yet another fine season with City , as he has already scored 29 goals in all competitions. With the prospect of winning multiple trophies this season, and the World Cup in a couple of months time, many people believe that Aguero has an outside chance of winning the Ballon d’Or this year.
It is a feeling that is shared by Lionel Messi, as he sent a message to his good friend after Manchester City’s victory over Basel in the Champions league.
Messi believes that City are the favourites to win the Champions league this year, and could very well win the treble, giving Aguero the perfect opportunity to win the most prestigious individual accolade in football.
