In the last decade, with an equal share of fights, it was FC Barcelona who have won the domestic cups more. Whereas,  Real Madrid have been the most successful team in European competitions.

Having netted these much goals for his club, Lionel Messi was asked to picked one from this lot. He picked the first goal which he scored as a 17-year-old against Albacete to announce his arrival in style.

“The goals of the Clasicos are always special and against hard opponents that are usually up like Atlético, Valencia, Sevilla…

“Those that I have had the luck to score against our fans here in the Camp Nou they are always nice, and they are also special that I scored as a visitor because of the difficulty of playing away.”

Under Pep Guardiola they won every available trophy at Barcelona proving to be the best team on the land. The Argentine was quick to pinpoint his teammates’ contributions which has resulted in many trophies.

“In the end the most important goals are not the most spectacular, but those that serve us as a team to win.”

“It is clear that without the help of all my colleagues, those now and those who were these years, it would have been impossible to score them [all his goals].”

When he was asked about the 400th goal, Lionel Messi said that he does not focus on numbers as he puts his team on the first and wants to contribute much more as the day passes by.

“I’m proud to have reached 400 and I hope I can get some more. I’m not much of a focus on the records or numbers, I prefer to focus on the day to day.”
