David De Gea has stated that the club needs to continue on their impressive run to increase their chances of a top-four finish.

Manchester United have been impressive under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far. The side has won eight games on a trot, including two FA Cup ties against Reading and Arsenal respectively.

The side cruised to the fifth round of the tournament with a 3-1 win over Unai Emery’s side, with Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial among the goalscorers.

United will now take on Burnley in the midweek fixture on Tuesday. However, David De Gea has sent a message to his teammates before the game.

The goalkeeper has been key to United’s 1-0 victory against Tottenham earlier this month, as he made an incredible 11 saves in the second half, winning the Man of the Match for the performance.

David De Gea on Manchester United’s performances:

In an interview with Sky Sports, the Manchester United goalkeeper stated that the side is happy with the current performances but is still unsatisfied with the current situation, with regards to league position.

“It’s clearly a great run of results, but we are still outside of the Champions League places and we’re very far from winning the Premier League,” De Gea said. “We’re happy with the wins, but we aren’t satisfied with the overall situation.

“This is a club that should be fighting for the title, but we are gaining in confidence, and we are going to try to achieve as much as possible from the rest of the season; winning games, hopefully getting into the Champions League places and doing well in the competition.”

De Gea also admitted that it is ‘impossible’ for United to lift the Premier League title. However, he also added that the side aims to finish in the top-4.

“It’s impossible to win the Premier League,” he said. “It was what we wanted before we began the season, this is a club that needs to win trophies.

“We want to get back into the Champions League places, which will be a difficult objective, but we have managed to reduce the points deficit quite a bit.

“We will fight until the end and if we stay in the form that we’re in, we will win matches.”
