Barcelona knew that a victory over second placed Atletico Madrid would effectively seal their La Liga triumph. No one’s surprise, it was Lionel Messi who proved to be the difference once again, as Barcelona’s number ten scored in inch perfect free-kick in the first half.
Surprisingly, Messi has scored only 8% of his total free-kicks, which was made to look ridiculous as he beat Oblak to give Barcelona the lead. Atletico were surprisingly toothless in response, as Simieone’s side could not muster much of a threat in the remaining of the match.
Hot shot Griezmann could not pull anything back for his side, as the Frenchman was negated quite easily by the Barcelona defense. Diego Costa tried to bully his way through to the goal, but was often outfought by the brilliant Pique.

Barcelona’s win makes them the odds on favourite for the title, as only a monumental slip up will see the Catalan giants miss out on the domestic title.
Messi has already started thinking of next season, as the Argentine champion has asked the Barcelona board to sign Spanish star Saul from Atletico in the summer.
Saul has been a star for Atletico as the Spaniard has made a name for himself at Madrid. It is said that he could be available in the summer for a price of 100 Million, which is something that Messi wants Barcelona to explore.
Messi is a big fan of the Spaniard, and his versatile presence in midfield and defense could be a massive help to Barcelona. Still only 23 years old, Saul could become a cornerstone of the Catalan side for years to come!
