Liverpool threaten to pull out of Carabao Cup despite winning thriller against Arsenal

Liverpool threaten to pull out of Carabao Cup despite winning thriller against Arsenal at the Anfield on penalties last night.

Liverpool may have overcome Arsenal in their Carabao Cup fixture last night. However, manager Jurgen Klopp is adamant that the side will not play in the League Cup quarters unless an acceptable time-slot is found.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal played a fairly inexperienced side. Arsenal led the match 3-1 and 4-2 on different occasions. However, Liverpool played brilliantly to pull the match back. By full time, the scoreline read 5-5.

Liverpool won the match in penalties to make their way to the final 8. However, Jurgen Klopp was least impressed by the development. Instead, he chose to complain over Liverpool’s fixture pile-up and the congestion it has caused.

The Club World Cup in December has already postponed Liverpool’s Premier League clash with West Ham to a different date. The same will be required of this tie if Liverpool are to feature in the League cup. However, this will bring its own set of problems.

Liverpool have 6 midweek features pencilled in a row between November 27 and January 2. Realistically, they can only play their quarter finals in January. However, the only possible slots are reserved for their FA Cup matches and reserve days for the replays.

We will not be victims!

“I’m not concerned, somebody else has to be concerned, because we didn’t make the fixtures, we didn’t make the schedule,” Klopp said after the match.

“FIFA told us the Club World Cup would be then, we have to come there, so we do.

“The Premier League tells us we have to play the Premier League, which we do obviously, and the Carabao Cup, which we did tonight.

“If they don’t find a place for us, an appropriate place, not 3am on Christmas Day, then we don’t play.

“But you have to think about these things, if you have a fixture list where one team cannot be part of all the games, then you have to think about the fixture list.

“And hopefully it starts at one point, hopefully it starts now. I really think it’s fair that this problem is obvious now.

“But we will not be the victims of this problem, we played tonight, we wanted to win it, we did that.

“If they don’t find a proper date for us, then we cannot play the next round and whoever is our opponent will go through, or Arsenal plays—I cannot change that.

“But we [should] ignore that problem completely for tonight.

“I think a lot of people from the Premier League were sitting in front of the television hoping that Arsenal can do it. But, I’m sorry!”
