Every India’s young cricketer’s dream is to play alongside MS Dhoni to reap the substantial inputs so as to become one of the best in the cricketing business.

Basil Thampi who just got a maiden call-up to India’s T20I setup will be in contention to play against Sri Lanka. According to the quotes from PTI, Thampi was not at all expecting a dream India call-up.

As soon as he heard that news from KCA secretary, he was ecstatic and delighted to the core. “I am feeling very proud and happy. But, I was surprised to learn from KCA secretary Jayesh George that I had been selected for the Indian team.

It is a great moment as it has always been my dream to don the national colours. In the past one year, I have become a more confident bowler and I’m hopeful of doing well for India against Sri Lanka,” quoted Basil Thampi.

Basil Thampi emphasised the fact that IPL is the turning point of his career. He was instrumental in his bowling with subtle variations of line and lengths. He clearly looks to be the good death overs specialist as he recalls bowling close to 10 dot balls against big hitters of the game.

“The IPL this year was a turning point in my career, especially the match against Mumbai Indians. In my last two overs, I bowled something like 10 yorkers to batsmen like Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard. This got me noticed,” he added.

Basil Thampi’s longtime goal is that he has to bowl and MS Dhoni has to keep the wickets. “I want to bowl and MS Dhoni to keep. It has been a long-time dream of mine,” conceded Thampi.

Even Glenn McGrath played a huge role in shaping up Thampi’s career. He was the one who nurtured Thampi to keep up the pace. It’s just about absorbing the confidence and motivation factors ahead of achieving something else.

He [McGrath] advised me not to lose pace while bowling and I have kept that in mind. I have also gained a lot by interacting with him and Senthil Sir [M Senthilnathan, head coach the Pace Foundation]. They have motivated me a lot and given me a lot of confidence,” quoted Thampi.
