Lopetegui on Real Madrid vs Levante

Julen Lopetegui on Real Madrid vs Levante: Lopetegui speaks to media after another loss in La Liga.

Real Madrid might have finally broken the goalless streak – that too, after they created a record for the longest goalless run in club’s history, but Lopetegui failed to overcome Levante in their return to La Liga.

The Los Blancos faced another defeat in the Spanish top flight, as they went down 2-1 to Levante.

Levante scored two quick goals within the space of 13 minutes, and Real Madrid had two goals ruled out with VAR. Marcelo pulled one back in the second half, but it was too late to make a comeback into the game.

Real Madrid are 5th in the league, but fear that they could fall down further as Espanyol and Real Valladolid are yet to play their games in the league.

Julen Lopetegui spoke to media after the match:

Julen Lopetegui on Real Madrid vs Levante:

The manager insisted that he isn’t thinking about the sacking, and stated that he’s more motivated than ever to bring Real Madrid’s campaign back on track.

“Right now that [the sacking] is the last thing I’m thinking about,” said Lopetegui.

“What I want is to get the boys back up as soon as possible and prepare them for the next match we have in three days [against Viktoria Plzen].

“I feel more motivated than ever to continue because the team has left everything on the field.”

Lopetegui also spoke about the game and the ‘injustice’, relating to the VAR decisions which went against them.

“Sooner or later we will get ahead. We know the injustice that football has had with us, but only the dynamic is changing.

“The dressing room was sad, but with the desire to raise their heads and look at the next game. The team has given their all and is going to leave everything [out on the pitch] to get out of this situation.

“It is clear that we have not deserved the defeat, but in football you win by scoring goals,” he said. “We have shot 34 times, we had two off the post and had two goals disallowed. There were many chances, but these things happen in football, that’s why it’s so wonderful.

“We took risks, we created countless chances, but only one has gone in. The only thing that can be done is to win matches.”
