Mamelodi Sundowns players spent 5 minutes to take a corner kick while playing against Blem Celtic, raking the term time-wasting to next level.
Just like any other game, South African side Mamelodi Sundowns resorted to time-wasting, while they were winning in the final minutes of the game against Blem Celtic.
However, this kind of time-wasting was rather absurd as Mamelodi Sundowns wasted 5 minutes to take a corner kick. They got a corner in the 81st minute, by the time they’d taken the set piece it was the 86th minute.
During the five minutes, four Sundowns’ players went to take the corner, three were booked, and the manager also made a substitution in the process, as the fans and players of Blem Celtic were furious.
Gaston Sirino, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Hlompho Kekana were all booked for their inability to take the corner in a swift manner before Kekana was subbed off.
Moreover, while the above three players were booked, they refused to take the kick as they pretended to show dissent against the punishment, whereas, the positioning of the ball was also changed on the corner to further waste time.
Apart from this, the players also wasted time by taking delayed run-ups, eventually annoying home fans and referee. As soon as the kick was taken Blem Celtic players approached the referee.

Vilakazi put the home side ahead after just 15 minutes before Ndumiso Mabena equalised for Celtic 15 minutes later. The home side retook the lead through midfielder Hlompho Kekana on 55 minutes and held on to the lead.
Credits to the five-minute time-wasting too, which contributed in their victory. The Sundowns have won the title in the past two seasons but aren’t having it all their own way this season and are currently chasing the Kaizer Chiefs.
