Man Utd asked to sign European star who is similar to Van Dijk

Former Manchester United star has suggested the club to sign the European star who is similar to Virgil Van Dijk.

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has suggested the club to sign the European star who possesses similar traits to Virgil Van Dijk. The Bulgarian has been critical about Manchester United’s defence which needs improvement in the summer transfer window, without a shadow of a doubt.

Berbatov has suggested his old club to lure in Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax. The 19-year-old has lead his side to the Champions League Semifinals and was the winner of the golden ball for the year 2018. Ajax are prepared to lose him this summer, but they would demand a huge sum.

“Ole needs a centre-back who can control the ball, pass into midfield and not be intimidated — just like Van Dijk,”

“If I am a striker with Van Dijk in my team, I know it will be OK. They need someone like that. For a player so young, De Ligt’s performances are incredible.

He continued: “He’s mature, comfortable on the ball, and he is not bothered who he plays against — Ronaldo or whoever. He doesn’t care, he just plays his own game.

“He moves with grace and doesn’t panic on the ball. He has everything you want from a defender.

“That guy will be an unbelievable player. He’s a great talent and I hope United go for him in the summer and get him.”

If Red Devils are serious about securing his services, they have to shrug off the interest from Barcelona, Liverpool, Juventus, and Bayern Munich. In an interview, the defender spoke about his admiration to line up with his national skipper, Virgil Van Dijk. However, Liverpool are unlikely to splash a huge amount on a center-back this summer with already many central defenders at stake.

There is no doubt that he would come as an upgrade to the current United defence. But, with the Champions League spot unlikely with the current form, the Red Devils will have to come away with shrewd decisions to upgrade their squad.
