Man Utd Transfer News: Diego Godin makes huge Red Devils transfer admission

Diego Godin has made a huge Manchester United transfer admission.

Manchester United were desperate to land a centre-back last summer, but they were not able to sign anybody. Ed Woodward denied signing any player for a stopgap period and insisted Jose Mourinho to look at long-term. Diego Godin was another name on the shortlist and his agent contacted the Red Devils for a potential move.

In fact, a helicopter was ready to pick him up from Madrid last summer, but the Uruguyuan decided to make a U-Turn and stay put at Atletico, according to several sources. He signed a one-year contract extension with Diego Simeone’s side with a little hike in his wages.

As his contract is coming to a conclusion, Diego Godin bid farewell and confirmed his departure from Atletico Madrid this summer.

Godin arranged a press-conference and confirmed his absence from the club from next season. The Atletico Madrid defender said “Thank you all, I wanted to communicate with my mouth that will be my last days at Atlético Madrid. This was my home, Atlético is not a club; It’s a way of life.”

After tears rolled down his cheek, Godin confirmed that he turned down Manchester United last summer.

“I refused Manchester United bid one year ago because I decided to stay at Atlético Madrid. Now – one year later – it’s time to go.”

He is expected to join the Italian outfit Inter Milan, as confirmed by the reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Atletico Madrid were undone by Juventus in the Champions League Round of 16 and Barcelona have already been crowned as La Liga Champions. Apart from Diego Godin, free agents Juanfran and Felipe Luis are tipped to leave the club. There has been a huge rumour mill about Antoine Griezmann, Rodri, and Saul Niguez’s exit from the club this summer.

It will be an interesting summer for the Madrid outfit who enter into a transition. Diego Simeone will find it difficult to catch up Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are expected to splash hefty sum in the summer window.

Here’s how Twitter reacted..

What’s next?

Atletico Madrid will face Sevilla on Sunday before taking on Levante in the final day of the La Liga campaign.
