Manchester City expected lineup vs Newcastle United: Who will Pep Guardiola drop after City drew last weekend?
Manchester City drew 1-1 against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League’s third match-week. The ‘Cityzens’ dropped their first away points since the 3rd of February on an unlucky day. Pep Guardiola will be happy about his players’ performance but certainly not their finishing. They host Newcastle United next at the Etihad Stadium, here’s a look at the predicted line up.
DEFENCE
Ederson conceded his second goal in as many games this season. However, he is the outright starter following Claudio Bravo’s ACL injury and should play against Fulham. Aymeric Laporte who scored City’s equaliser could start next to Nicolas Otamendi who is yet to play a minute of Premier League football. Surprisingly, Benjamin Mendy was below average but could start on the left back place with Kyle Walker down the right.
MIDFIELD
In Kevin De Bruyne’s absence, Manchester City lost their first Premier League points in the Molineux Stadium. Fernandinho is expected to start in the central defensive midfield position just ahead of the centre backs. David Silva is expected to start in the visit of Newcastle United as well. Bernardo Silva could be sacrificed after a poor performance with Riyad Mahrez continuing, but in the former Monaco man’s position.
ATTACK
Manchester City boast a lethal attack but one which could not do much against a stubborn Wolverhampton side. Sergio Aguero is in superb form and even hit the frame of the goal on a few occasions today, including a free kick in the last minute of stoppage time. He is expected to start his fourth game in a row in the Premier League solely due to his amazing form. Leroy Sane is expected to be back in the fray on the left wing after a decent display today. Raheem Sterling could start at right wing against the Cottagers, in a role slightly advanced than that against the Wolves.
EXPECTED LINEUP: Ederson; Walker, Laporte, Otamendi, Mendy; Fernandinho, Silva, Riyad Mahrez; Sterling, Aguero, Sane
