Manchester City vs Newcastle prediction

Manchester City will face Newcastle United on fourth match-week of the Premier League. TheSportsRush brings Manchester City vs Newcastle prediction.

Pep Guardiola’s high-flying Manchester City came to a brief halt last weekend when the newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers held them to a draw. Wolves displayed a highly attacking style of play and caught City’s defence off-guard on a number of occasions.

Nuno’s side came close to the winner after City’s equaliser, and Rui Patricio made acrobatic saves to deny Manchester City three points on their visit to Molineux Stadium.

City will now host Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium, and are convincingly the favourites to win the game.

In their last 14 outings, Manchester City have won a whopping 13, drawing one. In the last season, Guardiola’s side completed a double on Newcastle United.

However, even when City were held to a draw by Wolves last week, Pep Guardiola took off from where they left last season in the Premier League. They registered a convincing victory against Arsenal, and thumped Huddersfield 6-1 on the second match-week of the league.

The absence of Kevin de Bruyne is likely to have an impact on Manchester City, and Pep Guardiola will have to find a way to draft in the likes of Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus. Benjamin Mendy has been under-performing since the start of the season, and it is likely that Sane will get a call-up into the starting XI for the match against Newcastle.

PREDICTION

Manchester City came close to beating Wolves many times last week, only to be denied a winner from Rui Patricio’s stunning saves. Aguero and Sterling also faced a terrible luck as both hit the woodwork during the first half.

With Silva, Sterling and Aguero leading the attack, Manchester City’s fluidity while on the offensive is hard to deal with for Newcastle defenders.

However, City’s defence has been shaky, as was quite evident from their performance against Wolves. Nuno’s attacking style came as a surprise for Pep Guardiola’s side, and Wolves’ attackers created ample space to pull out chances throughout the match.

Yet, City’s attack has been one of the major reasons behind their success in the Premier League last season. And it comes as no surprise that betting odds are tilted heavily in the favour of defending champions.

Bookmakers like SkyBet currently have the odds of a whopping 20/1 for a Newcastle United win, while City’s victory has a 1/8 odds. SportPesa’s current odds are 25/1 for the Magpies’ victory, and 17/2 for a draw.

We are going with a 3-1 victory for Manchester City in their game against Newcastle United. Wolves’ spirited display last week may pave way for Newcastle to approach an attacking style against City. The Toons might be able find the net as well, due to City’s sloppiness in the defence, but their attack would be too hot to handle for them.
