Manchester United had Gabriel Martinelli on four trials before refusing him to keep with the club; the player later found his career with Arsenal.

Gabriel Martinelli has gained fame with Arsenal after giving impressive performances for the club recently. The 18-year-old player signed a long term contract with the Gunners in June 2018 and since then been regarded as a promising talent.

Martinelli netted his 10th goal of the season against Chelsea after running from his own box to score a sensational individual effort. Surely, the player seems a bright prospect for Mikel Arteta in the coming years.

However, it has been recently revealed by Martinelli he spent two months on trial at Manchester United, where he joined up with the club “four times for around 15 days at a time” when Jose Mourinho was in charge.

The young striker even played a friendly game against  Lincoln City, where he played the final 30 minutes of the game alongside the likes of Brandon Williams.

“From 2015 to 2017, I went to train there [at United] four times for around 15 days at a time,” he told ESPN Brasil.”As everyone trains at the same training centre and is in the same cafeteria, I saw all the professionals.”

“I asked to take pictures for [Patrice] Evra, [Marouane] Fellaini and others. [Paul] Pogba knew I was Brazilian and asked if everything was OK and where I played. We took a picture together.” said Martinelli

Despite being at the Old Trafford for a prolonged time, he was refused by the Red Devils only to be picked up by Arsenal, where he is having a successful start to his career.

Probably Manchester United failed to spot something in him which their North London rivals noticed and decided to give him a huge break at the Emirates Stadium.
