Mesut Ozil: European club working to sign Gunners star in summer transfer window

Turkish club Fenerbahce are working to sign Mesut Ozil from Arsenal.

Turkish journalist Fatih Dogan claims that Fenerbahce are working to sign Mesut Ozil from Arsenal. The unwanted German star is occupying huge wages and his exit could see a drastic increase in the transfer budget.

Besides sitting on a high wage, the 30-year-old has fallen out of favour under the manager Unai Emery, who even offered him to Inter Milan in the January window. But, the Italian side were refusing to pay his full wages, which was an utmost demand of the Gunners. Paris Saint Germain were preparing a bid to take him on loan until the end of the season, but he refused to move away from Emirates Stadium.

With no Champions League at stake, the Spaniard is hoping to ship him off to bolster the whole squad. The former Real Madrid midfielder is currently earning £350,000 per week, a major stumbling block for other sides. But, Fenerbahce are ready to prise him away, but they are looking for sponsors to make the deal happen.

Dogan said of Fenerbahce president’s interest on the player and a move could materialize if Ozil accepts to move to the Turkish side.

“Fenerbahçe president Ali Koç is working very hard to sign him,” Doğan told TRT Spor (via The Mirror). “For his wages and loan fee, the club are trying to find the sponsors. They are working on it.

“I think it’s going very well. Right now, I can say the possibility is 50-51% positive.”

With just a year left in the player’s contract, an offer around £20 million would suffice the Gunners. But, matching his demands would be a major headache for Fenerbahce, even if the valuations are met, it remains to be seen if Ozil would be open to a transfer to Turkey.

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

Arsenal will be hoping to cash in on him despite losing him for free next summer. Should they manage to sell him, the transfer budget will be high which would enable Emery to sign his targets.
