Mesut Ozil: Fenerbahce release huge statement about Arsenal star transfer

Fenerbahce holds no interest on Mesut Ozil as confirmed by the club.

Turkish side Fenerbahce have confirmed about their nil interest on Arsenal star Mesut Ozil. There were rumours rumbling of the former Real Madrid midfielder joining the European side, but it has been squandered now.

In an official statement released by the club, it read: “In recent weeks, and especially in the last few days, the necessity of providing information about the claims of Mesut Özil, which is on the agenda, to clarify the situation has arisen.

“Mesut Özil, with his career and stance, successfully represents our country abroad and is an important value known with the identity of Fenerbahce.

“However, Fenerbahce does not have an interest in signing Mesut Ozil. Under the current economic conditions, such a step is not possible for both parties.

“Our President, Ali Koç, made statements on the subject in the WinWin program held on June 20 and emphasized that this could not be realized in the short term. We present it to our community and the public.”

Ozil’s contract runs until 2021 and there were speculations about a possible loan deal, but that news has now been put to bed. Fenerbahce’s statement suggested a deal could become possible at a later stage in the midfielder’s career.

Unai Emery’s first season in charge with Arsenal saw the club reach the Europa League final and miss out on Champions League qualification via the Premier League.

Bettering that performance and returning to Europe’s top table will ultimately be the aim for the 2019/20 campaign – which Arsenal kick-off away to Newcastle United on August 11 – but whether or not Emery intends to make Ozil a key component in achieving those goals remains to be seen.

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

Mesut Ozil will stay put at Arsenal and run down his contract. Until and unless the Gunners receive a suitable offer, who offer him ludicrous wages, he will take part in the upcoming season.
