With the proceedings of South Africa’s ongoing tour of India moving to Mohali on the back of the first T20I being abandoned due to rain, there have been plentiful talks about how the Indian team have fared at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium.
With the series effectively a two-match series now, both the teams would be looking to win both the matches to eventually clinch the series. India’s experience in their home conditions is most likely to prove too much for the inexperienced visitors.
What is India’s T20I record in Mohali stadium?
Among the premier stadiums in India, Mohali has hosted India for a couple of T20Is since it’s first match in 2009. Overall, it has only hosted four T20Is including three in the ICC World Twenty20 in 2016.

The first T20I on this venue saw India successfully chasing down a 207-run target in the last over. It was a match-winning 80-run partnership for the third wicket between the then captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and all-rounder Yuvraj Singh which aided India to win the match.
Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the 12th over, Yuvraj had scored 60* (25) with the help of three fours and five sixes. India’s top-scorer was opening batsman Virender Sehwag who scored 64 (36) with the help of seven fours and three sixes. Having registered bowling figures of 3-0-23-3 as well, Yuvraj was declared the Man of the Match.
In the second match against Australia during the ICC World Twenty20 in 2016, a magical half-century from Virat Kohli saw India chasing down 161 runs in the last over. An unbeaten match-winning 67-run partnership for the fifth wicket saw Kohli getting a contrasting assistance from Dhoni (18*).
