Mourinho on Klopp: Manchester United will face Liverpool in the heavyweight clash on Sunday.

Manchester United are currently 6th in the league. Jose Mourinho’s side has had a difficult season so far, with both, the manager and players being involved in a fair share of controversies.

The side slumped to a shock 2-1 defeat against Valencia and squandered the chance to finish their Champions League group on the top. After being winless in their Premier League games since returning from the international break last month, United finally returned registered an emphatic 4-1 victory over Claudio Ranieri’s Fulham last weekend.

As Mourinho’s side makes a trip to first-placed Liverpool this week, the players will aim to put their performance against Valencia in the past.

In the pre-match interaction with the media, Jose Mourinho talked in length about the upcoming clash with one of their biggest rivals, and also talked about Klopp’s lack of trophies since joining Liverpool.

Mourinho on Klopp:

Jose Mourinho talked about Jurgen Klopp’s failure to win trophies since joining Liverpool. He stated that trophies matter, and insisted that Liverpool’s squad has the potential to win silverware.

“I don’t know, depends on the way you approach it, I think trophies matter, it matters, especially when you have the potential to fight for trophies and especially when you clearly say the objective is to win the trophy,” Mourinho said.

“I think sometimes to just say is not very intelligent, but when you have the potential, you have nothing to hide.”

Liverpool reached the final of the Champions League last season, but were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid. The side finished fourth in the Premier League, but are currently undefeated in the league this season so far.

“You know from day one your potential, and your desire has a relation with the potential because to say ‘we want to win’, everyone can say that. But another [thing] is to say the potential in a way you have, but I think Jurgen told already they want to win the Premier League, is their objective,” Mourinho added.

What next?

Manchester United will aim to end Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the Premier League this season. Jurgen Klopp’s side is the only team to not have conceded a loss in the league this season.

Both the sides have qualified for the round-of-16 of the Champions League, with the draw being made on Monday.
