When a sport is equivalent to a religion, heroes from the sport assume the role of God. Fans savour them, look up to them and go to extreme lengths in order to get a glimpse of these real life heroes. For such cricket frenzy fans, nothing else matters. Their heroes bring about meaning in their life, they bring inspiration and most importantly they become a medium of forgetting any kind of pain that a common Indian man/woman faces.

It slowly turns into an addiction, and while some people turn to drugs and alcohol for solace, these fans start worshipping their cricketing idols. Their obsession grows and they jump at any chance they get to meet their idols, no matter how difficult it is.

Once such fan broke the police barrier and stormed onto the pitch during Jharkhand’s encounter against Vidarbha in the Vijay Hazare tournament, in order to meet and touch MS Dhoni’s feet.

The fan ran onto the pitch and presented MS Dhoni with a pen and a paper in order to give him his autograph, while he touched Dhoni’s feet.

And while many players would have lashed out and let security handle the issue, MS Dhoni with his calm demeanour let the fan savour the moment and gave him his autograph.

The quarter final match was being played in the Palam A stadium in Delhi and while the quarter final match wouldn’t have attracted much attention, MS Dhoni’s presence was enough to warrant bucketloads of fans coming in to watch the game. Dhoni came into bat in the 35th over and ended the game with a monstrous six over mid wicket, much to the delight of the fans.

It was wonderful to see MS Dhoni grant the wish of the fan, or else the security could have taken matters into its own hands and would have given the fan a huge bashing.
