Bubba Wallace’s Spotter Picks Lewis Hamilton as NASCAR’s Next Shane Van Gisbergen: “Who Would Ever Not Want to See That?”

The Project 91 team from the Trackhouse Racing team has no doubt been a successful venture. They have had drivers such as the 2007 Formula 1 world champion, Kimi Raikkonen, and the recent Supercars champion, Shane Van Gisbergen, who’ve been introduced to the world of NASCAR. Looking forward to the future, there are surely more drivers who would want to use the platform to quench their Cup Series thirst. Perhaps it could even be Lewis Hamilton, who Bubba Wallace’s spotter recently nominated to be the next Project 91 driver.

Hamilton is arguably the most accomplished and the greatest driver to have ever raced in Formula 1. And his addition to the NASCAR grid for a race would not only do his legacy wonders, but it could potentially boost NASCAR’s brand further than what it experienced with Gisbergen’s Chicago win.

Freddie Kraft believes Project 91 should pick up the 7x Formula 1 champ next

While on the podcast, the spotter was asked who would he pick to come racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. Freddie Kraft had an answer ready in the back of his head and explained the reason behind his pick for a Project 91 wish list.

Freddie Kraft stated, “I think the obvious answer is Lewis Hamilton. Like who would not want to see Lewis Hamilton in a NASCAR race ever? Who would ever not wanna see that? So that’s my pick.”

Later on, a fellow spotter on the podcast, Brett Griffin, mentioned how he would do whatever was possible to have Hamilton drive in NASCAR. Jokingly adding, “Unfortunately, I don’t think us chipping in or starting a Go Fund Me is really going to matter.”

Will Lewis Hamilton be interested to drive in NASCAR?

Of course, everyone would love to see Lewis Hamilton get into a Next-Gen Cup Series car and go out racing. But does he even want to? Well, as it turns out back in 2015, the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team driver, had mentioned his interest in racing in a NASCAR race sometime in the future.

After watching a season finale race at Homestead Miami during the 2015 season, Hamilton told the press, “The race was 267 laps, really long, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, trying to understand the strategy and the differences between the cars. It was neat. It made me want to drive one. I really fancy a race in NASCAR one day. I’m not sure I’d do an oval, but possibly a street circuit or road course.”

Moreover, Hamilton has also driven a Cup Series car in the past. While the Brit was still at McLaren during the early half of his Formula 1 career, he had taken part in a driver swap between Tony Stewart and himself. Both drivers brought their respective cars and had driven around the Watkins Glen Internation Circuit.

Therefore, picturing Hamilton coming down and racing in the Cup Series, albeit a single race, would not be far-fetched from reality. Although, he might not do the same during his active F1 career, possibly sometime in the future.
