Anthony Davis has suffered 2 more injuries within 2 games of the Lakers’ first-round series against the shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies.

When AD first burst onto the scene with a growth spurt in high school, he was tipped as one of the greatest basketball talents of all time. The 6’10” man had built himself a spectacular resume before playing a single NBA game.
Davis led Kentucky to their only NCAA championship this millennium. Despite his relatively spindly frame at the time, the Brow blocked a whopping 29 shots en route to the title. He was then chosen as a member of the gold-winning Olympics USA Basketball team.
However, the injury bug has plagued the 30-year-old throughout his NBA career. It seems that his body seems to break down nearly every 10-15 games these days.
His bad injury luck has contributed to Davis playing in just his 9th playoff series in 11 years. Much of the problem during his Pelicans tenure was his inability to stay healthy for long stretches.
This same trend has continued into his 4th season as a Laker now.
Charles Barkley wasn’t lying when he called Anthony Davis ‘Street Clothes’
Davis suffered an arm injury during Game 1 against the Grizzlies. The freak nature of the incident which caused this injury illustrates just how vulnerable Davis has been.
TNT ran a graphic during Game 2 last night, showing some of Davis’ major injuries over the years. It listed a total of 11 injuries causing him to miss 135 games.

However, even this chilling graphic fails to illustrate just how badly Davis has suffered from injuries. By the end of his championship season with LA, Davis had already suffered 27 different injuries ruling him out of multiple games.
We haven’t even counted the back-to-backs that he’s missed due to load management through the course of the past 6 years. It is clear that while Davis is a beast when healthy and motivated, neither of those conditions are lasting.
Anthony Davis isn’t built to be a big man
Many of the injuries displayed in the above graphic have occurred on AD’s explosive left foot. He’s suffered injuries to his ankle, knee and his calf, in addition to other groin injuries.
Clearly it has something to do with his physiology – he did gain 8 inches of height within a few months in high school. Perhaps his body wasn’t prepared for an NBA beating night in, night out against 7-footers.
Charles Barkley may have been harsh, but his sobriquet of ‘Street Clothes’ for Anthony Davis is definitely appropriate.
