After retiring from the NBA, Michael Jordan has done pretty well for himself in the business world, amassing a staggering net worth of $2 billion. However, Jordan has never shied away from using his massive wealth to bring in positive change in the world. From his work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to his efforts in helping those affected by Hurricane Florence, MJ has done a lot. In 2016, he made a sizeable $1,000,000 donation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Fast forward seven years and, as per reports, Kyrie Irving is now following suit with a $40,000 contribution to save a 93-year-old woman’s home.

Being charitable isn’t exactly new for Irving. A well-known philanthropist, Kyrie has done a lot for his community. Despite all the controversy surrounding him on the court, the 31-year-old continues to try and make a positive impact in society. All without actively seeking publicity.
Kyrie Irving has donated $40,000 in legal aid to help a 93-year-old woman
In the wake of unrest following police shootings in 2016, Michael Jordan donated $1,000,000 each to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Jordan’s donation was an attempt to help address issues concerning police shootings and community policing.
Both organizations put the money to good use. Now, seven years later, another NBA superstar is following suit. Just like MJ, Kyrie Irving has contributed $40,000 to aid Josephine Wright in her legal defense as she fights to keep her home.
The donation has gone a long way in helping Josephine Wright, a 93-year-old Hilton Head resident, who is currently facing a lawsuit filed against her by Bailey Point Investment LLC. According to Wright, the company is trying to force her to sell her property so that they can construct a 147-unit neighborhood complex.
The family has launched a fundraiser to help with legal fees, property taxes, and the construction of a fence between the new development and Wright’s property. Irving’s $40k donation has topped the chart till date.

It is a great gesture on Kyrie’s part, one that will surely help Wright and her family fight for their home and hopefully win their case.
Kyrie has made several charitable donations in the past as well
Kyrie Irving has tried to help out charitably through different means in the past as well. In fact, he made a $1,500,000 contribution to the WNBA players who chose to opt-out of the Bubble during the 2020 COVID-19 season.
He even donated $325,000 to Feeding America and partnered with a New York City charity to help provide 250,000 meals to the needy. A true testament to his character.

At the end of the day, Kyrie has developed a negative reputation in the NBA, thanks to the controversies he has been a part of. But his kindness and drive to help those in need should not be ignored.
