Over the past few years, Milwaukee Bucks have transformed into a legit title-contending powerhouse. Behind the leadership of their All-Star duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton, Milwaukee did manage to make quite a few deep playoffs run. However, the Bucks never quite reached the NBA finals despite being the favorites to win a championship.
This season, after the acquisition of the former Pelicans two-way guard, Jrue Holiday, and the mentorship provided by veterans PJ Tucker and Brook Lopez, Milwaukee looks stronger and more complete a team than before.
After missing out last year, the Bucks have surprisingly defeated the star-studded Brooklyn team to enter the Eastern Conference Finals yet again. Despite being 3-2 down in the second round of the playoffs, the Bucks managed to mount a great comeback and eliminate the favorites Brooklyn Nets.
“I’m taking the Milwaukee Bucks on winning the championship”: Charles Barkley
Entering the Bucks-Nets playoffs series, fans and analysts considered The Greek Freak and co. as the underdogs. And rightfully, when you are expected to play against the deadly trio of Durant, Harden and Irving, any team would be the underdogs.
However, after conquering an injury-riddled Brooklyn Nets team, the narrative of the title favorites have changed into Milwaukee’s favor. With the Bucks defeating the Nets, many fans and analysts have Milwaukee winning the championship this season. Following their Game 7 win, Charles Barkley confidently picked Antetokounmpo’s side to win it all. On the sets of ‘NBA on TNT’, Chuck said:
“They go through these valleys where they are fantastic. And the rest of the time they just give the back to Giannis on top of the key, and it’s frustrating to watch them.”
“I’m gonna tell you something right now. Milwaukee Bucks and I have said it last week when they were down 3-2, they are gonna win the world championship. That’s my personal opinion.”
“I think they’ll beat Philly or Atlanta and whoever comes out the West. But my opinion right now, I’ll take a bet, anybody wanna put, in taking Milwaukee Bucks to win the championship.”
