Luka Doncic has been exactly what Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks hoped he’d be when trading their pick with the Atlanta Hawks in the 2018 NBA Draft. The Slovenian superstar has been carrying the Mavs all season with absurd averages of 34.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.9 assists a game on nearly 62% true shooting.

With Jason Kidd finally deciding to start Christian Wood, the Mavs are looking like a team that could turn their season around as time goes by. They are currently 22-16 out West with Doncic leading the way. In merely his 5th season, he’s shown the potential to cement himself as an all-time great.
With the way he plays, he’s constantly compared to none other than LeBron James. While they’re both incredible playmaking forwards, they don’t exactly have the same skillsets. Despite this, he was asked James and his upcoming milestone in regards to eclipsing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Luka Doncic does not want to play for 20 years like LeBron James
Luka Doncic entered the league half a decade ago and it seems as though he isn’t looking to repeat that timespan another 3 times. When asked about if anybody could break LeBron’s eventual all-time regular season scoring record, he said it was possible if they played 20 seasons like ‘The King’.
He would go on to scoff at the notion of him playing that long in the league.
Luka Doncic on the odds of someone catching LeBron James:
“It’s always a possibility, but it’s going to be really tough. You gotta have a guy that plays for 20 years… If you’re saying me there’s no way cause I’m not playing that much.”

Unlike the man who passed the Dallas Mavericks torch down to him (Dirk Nowitzki), Luka is not keen on playing anything close to 20 seasons in the NBA. Dirk, who played for 21 years, brought a singular, yet incredibly meaningful championship to the city of Dallas. Doncic, who aims to do the same, will clearly not have that much time by his own volition.
LeBron James could be in the NBA for much longer than 2 decades
It’s a well known fact that LeBron James wants to play alongside his eldest son, Bronny James, for when Bronny makes it to the NBA. He’s set to be drafted into the league, barring any setbacks, in next year’s draft.
However, he recently hinted towards wanting to play with both him and his middle child, Bryce Maximus. That would mean him being in the NBA till 2026-27 at the minimum.
Furthermore, Dennis Schroder revealed that James would want to play till his mid-40s if his body allows him to.
