"Shaq smoked Kenny Smith in race to the big board again": Former Rockets shooter just can't win a foot race on Inside the NBA any more

Kenny Smith has had a case of bad knees for a while now. It’s gotten so bad that he can’t even beat 7’1″ Shaq in foot races any more.

The race to the big board is a feature that the Inside crew has been going at for years. It’s always been Kenny who’s acted as the instigator for these mock races. Given that he was a guard in his playing days, its completely natural to have that confidence against big men.

Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal may have been terrifying to stay in front of during transition back in their day. But neither of them has been much of a spring chicken since their respective retirements.

Kenny won quite a few races over the first few years that he pulled this stunt off and the crew obliged. However, Ernie and Chuck began noting Kenny’s mannerisms for cues as to when he’d go for the board.

Ernie pulled out an emphatic win in the last race that he took part in. His exaggerated walk back to his seat that night was pretty fun to watch, for those who remember.

Shaq trounces Kenny Smith ‘The Jet’ to the big board yet again

Kenny didn’t even begin to hide his intentions of racing to the board this time around. Ernie, Chuck and Shaq all saw exactly what he was up to, but only Shaq ventured to race this time.

The Jet never really picked up his pace as he got off his seat, allowing Shaq’s long legs to catch up with him. And in the twinkle of an eye, the race was as good as done, and Kenny was left with an egg on his face yet again.

It seems that Kenny just has to time everything right for him to have a chance at winning the race. Even Chuck beat him on a photo finish last time around.
