"Lionel Messi And Cristiano Ronaldo, You Need a Goalie?": 40 Days After Elimination, 6'11 Giannis Antetokounmpo Offers His Services to Football Legends

The NBA Finals are in full swing as yet another season nears a thrilling conclusion. The Miami Heat stole Game 2 by a slim margin at Ball Arena after the Denver Nuggets took an early lead winning the first game of the series. Entering the postseason as the eight seed in the East, Miami soon turned things around after upsetting the Milwaukee Bucks, who had ended the regular season with the best record in the NBA. Over a month after the disappointing playoffs exit, Bucks centerpiece Giannis Antetokounmpo has created a buzz in the NBA community once again with his unique offer to soccer superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Last year, the 2022 FIFA World Cup captured the attention of the world with its dazzling display. The global event gained even more traction after Argentine superstar Lionel Messi secured a fairytale storyline for his legendary career by winning the golden trophy. Messi’s World Cup victory was a big deal for billions of people around the world and therefore, it soon took over the Internet. It seems like the Greek superstar’s ‘For You’ page is still dealing with the impact of the World Cup as he recently offered his goalkeeping services to soccer legends Messi, Ronaldo and Benzema.

Giannis Antetokounmpo offers his goalkeeping services to Messi and Ronaldo

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s love for soccer is well-known. Hailing from Europe, the Greek Freak spent a big chunk of his early life in the heartland of the beautiful game. So his fascination for soccer and its brightest stars shouldn’t come off as a surprise to fans.

But what may come off as surprising, is the two-time MVP’s offer to soccer stars Messi, Ronaldo and Benzema. Antetokounmpo recently tweeted: “I was just sitting on my couch scrolling through For you page. Messi Ronaldo and Benzema.  If you’re looking for a goalie for next season, let me know.[laughing emojis]”

Even though the Greek superstar meant it as a joke, a 6’11 goalkeeper with a wingspan of 7’3 will be no laughing matter on the football pitch. However, Antetokounmpo is currently under a five-year, $228 million supermax contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, which he signed in 2020. He might find it a little difficult to bag a similar offer as a soccer goalkeeper.

Antetokounmpo’s interactions with international soccer superstars is not limited to only Internet banter. A few years ago, PSG stars Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe paid a visit to him and the Bucks team in their home arena. The funny exchange between the stars gained a lot of traction on the Internet.

Fans react to Giannis’ bizarre proposal

Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee Bucks to a brilliant NBA championship win in 2021. But the Bucks haven’t made it to the NBA Finals since then. A little over a month ago, the Midwestern team was knocked out of the playoffs by the eight-seeded Miami Heat despite having the best record in the NBA in the regular season.

Amidst all this, fans had a lot to say about Antetokounmpo’s proposal:
