TNT colleagues Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley had an infamous brawl during their playing career, back in 1999. The LA Lakers legend, who is overtly active on Instagram, posted a short clip of two teams getting into a fight at a casual match. Shaq shared the video without any comment, which featured a fight between the number 23 and number 4 of the two teams. The altercation looked like the kind he himself had with Chuck all those years back. The two individuals also shared a huge weight difference, with O’Neal known to be around 65 pounds heavier than Barkley, who weighs 252lbs. The similarity between the two incidents was talked about by Twitter user “What Are NBA Celebs Upto?”.

Of course, Barkley and Shaq have since become the closest of friends. The two have been close right from their playing days and have a unique relationship off the court. However, things did not go off to the best of starts as they had an intense altercation in 1999. The situation was such that the two’s mothers were forced to be involved to help them move on.

The brawl had some similarities with the fight Shaq himself had with Chuck. Back in the 1999 match against the Rockets and the Lakers, received a foul from the Lakers Brian Shaw. Shaq was trying to block Chuck from taking a shot and ended up pushing him once the foul was called.
This led to an angry reaction from Barkley, who immediately walked towards Shaq to fight. A similar situation happened in the clip Shaq shared. Number 23 of one team was blocked by the heavier number 4 of the other. As he did not like the contact, the number of 23 threw the ball back at 4, after which a brawl broke out.
The situation bears clear resemblance to the fight Chuck and Shaq had. This similarity was talked about on Twitter by the “What Are NBA Celebs Upto?” account:

It is not clear if Shaq ended up sharing the video since the incident reminded him of his own fight. However, as the Twitter account pointed out, the altercation did bear resemblance to the actual fight.

Unbeknownst to both Shaq and Barkley, the two’s mothers were actually good friends. After the game, he was handed a phone by his uncle. Both his and Chuck’s mom was on the call and asked him to apologize.
Shaq had no idea that the two were friends. He also didn’t have a choice and ended up apologizing to Chuck.
The two have since been utterly close friends. Apart from a deep respect for each other’s careers, Shaq and Chuck have an obvious on-screen chemistry and a friendship that they will be glad their mothers forced them to develop.
