"Stephen Curry brought a different style of basketball": Patrick Mahomes reveals why he loves being compared to Warriors MVP for his unconventional gameplay

Stephen Curry was revolutionary with the way he changed basketball with his playstyle, and now, Patrick Mahomes is trying to do the same in the NFL.

Mahomes brought a unique gunslinging attitude to the NFL. While we had seen some big arms before, Mahomes was different in the way he flashed with the ball. Sidearms, floaters, and even passes with his left hand all became customary.

Sure, he wasn’t the first to do all these things, but the consistency with which he did everything kept him a step above everyone else who had come before him.

The basketball wizardry that Curry has put on display over the last decade has had a lasting impact on the league. His three-point shot has bent basketball to be a more high-paced, high-shooting game than it was earlier. Teams literally schemed around being able to maximize the three-pointer because of Curry.

Mahomes is trying to bring a similar fire in the NFL, and for that reason, he loves it when he’s compared to the Warriors MVP. He knows what he can do and likes the comparison.

Patrick Mahomes explains his similarity to Stephen Curry

New Heights released an incredible interview with Patrick Mahomes and Stephen Curry where they did a deep dive into Mahomes’ career.

The craziest stories come from how the Chiefs star was drafted, but other than that, Mahomes talked about several topics including comparisons.

Mahomes has often been seen as the ‘Curry of the NFL,’ and the KC quarterback is very fond of that comparison. This isn’t Mahomes being braggy or showing off, it’s just him recognizing how he plays football.

“My favorite [comparison], I mean yeah I hate talking about myself, my favorite one is the Steph one. Because I feel like
Steph brought a different style of basketball today, and I want to try to bring it to where it’s not – quarterback isn’t that’s what I’ve tried to do is make it where everybody is it can be played in different ways it’s not the traditional style.”

Clearly, Mahomes’ unconventional methods have worked. He’s won the most games of any quarterback through their first 74 games, and he owns passing records in that time period too.

His 22,576 yards in his first 74 games are more than 1,000 clear of second place, and he also has the most passing touchdowns of anyone through that time period.

Mahomes will keep looking to invent and change his game like Curry did. Curry won 4 titles with his style. Mahomes could very well reach that mark soon enough.
