Tom Brady’s illustrious career in the NFL spans 20 seasons, with most of it spent with the New England Patriots before joining the Buccaneers in 2020. During his time with the Patriots, Brady led the team to an impressive six Super Bowl victories. Since his departure, the Patriots’ performance has declined, highlighting Tom’s significant impact in their success. Experts, including Darrelle Revis, one of the greatest cornerbacks of all time, attribute New England’s unprecedented success to TB12.

Bill Belichick is considered another one of the major entities responsible for leading the Patriots to unprecedented success. In fact, Brady as his QB1 was almost a match made in heaven. Since TB12 left Patriots, head coach Belichick has been unable to replicate the same level of success. Talking about the same, Darrelle Revis recently had a lot to say during an interaction with I Am Athlete.
Darrelle Revis credits TB12 for Patriots’ unprecedented success
Darrelle, during the conversation, was fixated upon comparing Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, with respect to the Patriots’ success. The question of the hour was, “Was Brady or Belichick more to credit for the New England Patriots dynasty? “ Darrelle didn’t take a minute to accord the success to Tom Brady and his excellence on the field.
Revis said, “TB12. I would say TB12. That was a steal for Bill Belichick and the Patriots, to draft him in the sixth round.” He added that nobody could predict that Tom Brady would lead the team to the levels of success that he actually did. Revis further went on to discuss Tom’s amazing approach and why he thought TB12 was an astoundingly good leader.
Darrelle spoke, “But you gotta look at the hustle of Tom. Tom is one of the most competitive players on that field, and he knows how to move chess pieces on the board.” Darrelle also mentioned that Brady knew the offense in and out like no one else, not even Bill Belichick.
Only four teams won a Super Bowl after a season with a losing record.
All four teams had a new starting quarterback.
• Joe Montana — 1981 San Francisco 49ers
• Kurt Warner — 1999 St. Louis Rams
• Tom Brady — 2001 New England Patriots
• Tom Brady — 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers— Kinnu Singh (@ByKinnuSingh) July 31, 2022
Darrelle’s argument makes a lot of sense as Super Bowl 55 was won by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Brady at the helm. Revis also spoke about Bill Belichick and his ways, mentioning, “At the end of the day, the way that he runs his ship is a little bit different.” Although he didn’t disregard Belichick’s contribution in Patriots’ success, Darrelle made it absolutely clear that in his opinion, New England would surely not have won so many Lombardis without TB12.
New England Patriots now aim at regaining lost glory
The New England Patriots have a storied history that dates back to the 1960s. Although, it was the arrival of Tom Brady that truly elevated the team to glory. Prior to Brady, the Patriots tasted little to no success. As a matter of fact, they had never won a Super Bowl Championship till that point.
Signing with the Patriots as a 6th-round draft pick back in 2000, Brady formed a partnership with head coach Bill Belichick that would go on to define the NFL in the 21st century. The Brady-Belichick (2001-2019) started off with a bang and never looked back. In this defining era, the Patriots recorded an impressive 19 consecutive winning seasons and secured 17 division titles, including 11 consecutive titles from 2009 to 2019. They also made 13 appearances in the AFC Championship Game, reaching eight consecutive appearances from 2011 to 2018.
Since Tom Brady’s departure from the New England Patriots in 2020, the team’s performance has experienced a significant shift on the negative side. According to StatMuse, the New England Patriots have a 43-42 record without Brady. In 2020 they had a record of 7-9, in 2021 they lost in the Wild Card playoffs round and had a record of 10-7, and in 2022, they had a record of 8-9. In the seasons following Brady’s departure, the Patriots have missed out on the playoffs in two out of the three seasons.
Although the Patriots face the challenge of rebuilding and finding their footing without Brady, their storied history and strong foundation provide optimism for the future. It will be intriguing to see how they adapt and evolve in the coming years, while the legacy of Brady’s remarkable tenure in New England will forever be etched in the annals of NFL history.
