Paul Scholes or Steven Gerrard: Thierry Henry explains his choice. The French forward opened up on his thoughts on England’s best midfielder from their golden generation.
Thierry Henry settled the debate over England’s greatest generation of midfielders by siding with Manchester United legend Paul Scholes. In a segment on Monday night football, the former Arsenal striker was asked by a fan if there were any players, current or former, with whom he would like to have played with.

The French goal machine paused for a while before naming Paul Scholes, much to the delight of Schole’s United teammate Gary Neville who was grinning from ear to ear. Henry then named Steven Gerrard as a close second before explaining his choice.
“The next one would have been, right behind, very close, Stevie G. But I have to go with Paul Scholes.
“He was just ahead in his head. He made Manchester United tick. Every time we were playing them, we needed to find a way to stop him.
“It’s true. I think Stevie G comes really close to him. But Paul Scholes would have to win.”
“You guys in England had, on paper, the best midfield in the world,” he added

Paul Scholes or Steven Gerrard or Paul Scholes, this is one debate many fans have had for more than a decade. Considering the ilk of midfielders Thierry Henry has played with in the past, it is safe to say that he has an educated opinion on the subject.
And… Zidane, Xavi and Iniesta all said Scholes was the best of the lot of them.

While it is interesting to know what the legendary striker’s opinion on the subject is. It is unlikely that this will settle the debate among fans who will always have a reason up their sleeve as to why Lampard, Scholes or Gerrard is better than the others.
