Pep Guardiola admits he could be sacked at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola admits he could be sacked at Manchester City. The Sky Blues have already conceded the Premier League and face a tough Champions League clash.

Pep Guardiola has had a very fruitful stint in the Premier League. He guided Manchester to two Premier League titles and broke several records en route. However, the current season has seen his side drop from their impossibly high standards.

This has allowed Liverpool to leapfrog them in the race for the Premier League. After two seasons of perfect football, a slip up was bound to happen a few times. Unfortunately, with Jurgen Klopp’s men being as dominant as they have been this season, it was enough for them for their chase to unravel as it has.

Manchester City can still very well add a couple more trophies through the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. However, Guardiola knows that the Champions League is their last hope at salvaging their season. Unfortunately, they face a Real Madrid shaped wall in the round of 16.

“I accept it. I want to win the Champions League, I dream and will enjoy the games against Real Madrid, to see what I can do,” Guardiola said.

“And this process, the two weeks before, will be the happiest moments of my profession, to imagine what we can do to beat them.

“If we don’t beat them, then the chairman will come, or the sporting director, and say ‘It’s not good enough, we want the Champions League, I’m going to sack you'”

When asked if he truly believed that, Guardiola said:

“I don’t know, many times it has happened. Or maybe he will say ‘OK you’ve done well, but what can we improve?'”

Manchester City have never progressed in the competition beyond the quarterfinals. They had a foot in the Semi-final last season. However, Tottenham managed to overcome the odds and beat City to advance. Spurs would eventually reach the final where they lost to Liverpool.
