Pickford to replace De Gea

Pickford to replace De Gea: Manchester United have reportedly identified the replacement for Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea.

David De Gea has been the most important figure at Manchester United for many years. Ever since his arrival at Old Trafford in 2011, De Gea established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the game.

However, the club fears his departure at the moment, as the Spanish star is yet to sign a new contract with the club.

With the current contract expiring next season, Manchester United are desperate to offer a new deal for De Gea. However, the goalkeeper has his own concerns.

Manchester United’s form has been a cause of worry for the keeper, as the club is currently 8th in the Premier League, and look nowhere near challenging for the Premier League title. The Manchester derby last weekend reflected on the huge difference in quality between both the sides, which has further caused issues for the keeper.

Pickford to replace De Gea:

According to English outlet The Sun, as quoted by Daily Express, Manchester United are weighing in on a deal for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The English goalkeeper emerged as a key figure for England in the World Cup this summer, and replicated his fine form for Everton this season.

The report suggests that the departure of De Gea looks increasingly likely, and that Jordan Pickford is being considered as a top option to replace the outgoing Spanish star. Manchester United will reportedly bid 60m pounds for Pickford, if De Gea decides to leave the club in the summer.

De Gea signed a new contract with Manchester United in 2015, after a dramatic end to the transfer window in the summer where Real Madrid’s move for the goalkeeper collapsed on the final day of the window.

Express also suggests that Manchester United are keeping tabs on Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid. However, Jose Mourinho, as well as his staff, are reportedly inclined towards making a move for Pickford if De Gea leaves.

What next?

Manchester United are also in the transfer market for a defensive signing, and Jose Mourinho was in attendance when Belgium took on Iceland in the Nations League game earlier this week.

The club was heavily linked with Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur.
