Possum wins ‘Man of the Match’: In a shocking first, a Possum was awarded the Man of the Match award in Liga MX.
Puebla defeated Veracruz 1-0 in the Mexican league game. However, in a bizarre turn of events, the man of the match award was not given to any of the players participating in the game.
Instead, a Possum was given the award, according to one of the TV broadcasters. (Possum is a member of the mammalian infraclass found in the Americas.)
The animal invaded the pitch during the game and stayed on the ground for quite sometime before the marsupial was rescued by local services and treated upon by the vets.
Mexican TV station ‘Azteca Deportes’ dedicated an entire video to possum’s arrival on the pitch during the game. They funnily added insane graphics to the video which signify the possum’s ‘movements’ across the pitch.
Here’s the video:

The joke didn’t end here, though.
Veracruz, the losing side in the game, are yet to win a game in the league and are currently 17th in Liga MX. And so, Puebla grabbed the opportunity to make fun of their rivals on Twitter.
In a tweet, they stated that the club should confirm whether the possum has been closer to the penalty box than any of Veracruz’s players.

As the video went viral, the followers of the Mexican league made witty jokes about the possum entering the field.
The story went viral soon.

Much to the disappointment of the reporters, however, the possum didn’t stop in the mixed zone for interviews.
