Jurgen Klopp Reveals 15-5 Vote In Favour To Bring Back The 5 Substitutes Rule: Liverpool’s manager divulged details of the all manager meet on the issue
Jurgen Klopp has persistently spoke about his bewilderment on the FA’s decision to do away with the five substitutes rule for the ongoing edition of the Premier League. And a bevy of injuries to Liverpool’s squad have only further strengthen the Liverpool man’s resolve to try and force back the rule this term.
Klopp Reveals 15-5 Vote In Favour Of the Rule
Earlier this week, an informal meeting between all the managers had taken place to take forward discussions on the five substitution rule for the season. And according to Klopp, there was a heavy consensus amongst all the clubs with managers voting 15-5 in favour of bringing back the rule which was embedded for the tailend of the 2019-20 season.
“Now we’re in a really difficult situation, where players are more under threat than before because of the situation the whole world is in, and so we have to make sure that we help as much as we can. We really have to talk about these things because otherwise nothing will change, and things have to change,” Klopp said talking about the need for the rule.
“And thank god, we had two days ago this manager’s meeting, and if we would have voted that day then it would have been 15-5 in favour of five subs,” the Liverpool manager added.
“But we couldn’t vote, because managers aren’t allowed to do that. If it would have, it was from 11-9 in favour of three subs to 15-5 in favour of five subs. So now, hopefully, the deciders can make the next steps,” Klopp said as he implored the FA to reconsider their move.
Klopp And Guardiola Bat For The Rule
Both Klopp and Guardiola had come out in unison in staunch support of the rule following Manchester City and Liverpool’s 1-1 draw previously in the league. Both the managers had vociferously backed the need for a reintroduction of the rule owing to the Coronavirus pandemic which sees the top 6 sides involved in a hectic and testing schedule.
“We didn’t speak about the result. We spoke about how we need to fight again and again for five substitutions. Look, an international England player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he’s injured. All around the world, there are five substitutions,” Pep said as he cited the string of injuries as a need for the rule.
“But here we believe we are more special people and just three players. We don’t protect the players. That’s why it’s a disaster with this calendar. I will demand, if the people allow my voice, to come back with five substitutions. It will help the players, the managers and everywhere to do it. If not it’s difficult to sustain it,” the City boss went onto add.
Hectic Schedule Continues To See The Injuries Pile On
As per a report by Premier Injuries, the ongoing season of the Premier League has seen a total of 103 muscle related injuries inside only the opening 8 weeks, a 16% increase as compared to the 2019-20 edition.
