PKL 2019 Tamil Thalaivas : Tamil Thalaivas look to finally get their season on track after two floundering seasons in the league
Making an onset in the Pro Kabaddi League alongside Gujarat Fortunegiants, U.P. Yoddha and Haryana Steelers, unfortunately for Tamil Thalaivas, their time out in the middle has been the worst. The least impressive of the four new entrants in the frontier league, for Tamil Thalaivas, PKL 7 is all about finally stamping their authority and putting on a formidable showing.

What To Expect From The Side In PKL 2019
Ahead of the 2019 auctions, the gameplan was clear for Tamil Thalaivas. It was a side that was in massive need of bolstering its raiding department with too much reliability on Ajay Thakur seeing them end PKL 6 is a sordid state. And to free up money to help their cause, the side needing up retaining just three players in Ajay Thakur, Manjeet Chillar and Victor Onyango Obiero as they released the rest of their side.
And with a clear eye of raiders, Tamil Thalaivas roped in Rahul Chaudhari in their side to make for an indomitable raiding unit. With over 48% of his side’s raiding points in the previous season and a total of 30% contribution to the attacking department across the two seasons, Ajay Thakur was finally given the support needed in the form of Rahul Chaudhari who was brought in for Rs.94 lakh after leaving to join only his second side in the league
With the riding department having been addressed along with the addition of Ran Singh who could play a pivotal role in the attacking segment of his side, for the Thalaivas it’s the defensive facet which continues to perturb them. The side brought in Mohit Chillar for Rs.45 lakh but he’s a player on the decline, registering a torrid 31 tackle points in 14 matches in the previous.
It’s going to be down to Manjeet Chillar and right cover Subramanian to bring an end to opposition attacks, a paper thin defence which doesn’t exude the most of confidence. This department massively disappoints for the side and if the side aren’t able to drill into their backline discipline and the requisite application, the Thalaivas could suffer the same aberrations as last season.
Key Players
Ajay Thakur
Retaining Ajay Thakur, their main centre raider, the side will be looking to him to bring in the raiding points once again. Having got in Rahul Chaudhari alongside him, the side’s strategy is pretty apparent. They’ll be banking heavily on their raiders to outscore the opposition and bring in points galore across their stay in the league.
What the side did particularly well in the auctions well to seamlessly blend function, experience and acumen together in the raiding segment. Probably one of the most experienced raiding sides in the league at the moment, Ajay Thakur with his 426 raiding points for the side has contributed to 30% of the team’s soirees up the mat with 203 of those points coming last year.
Rahul Chaudhari
Scoring the most number of points in a do or die raid in the previous season, Rahul with his 876 raiding points and running hand expertise of raiding helps cover the glaring holes which were present in the side. They finally have a strong two man partnership in the raiding department, one filled with immense experience and acumen needed to help the side imbed a successful spree which could take it to the pinnacle.
Manjeet Chillar
In what is a defence that doesn’t indulge us in the most articulate of options, all-rounder Manjeet Chillar is going to decide how the side fare at the back. He’s scored 200 raiding points and 300 defensive ones, the only player in the league to have 300 tackle points. He can come up with well worked chain-tackles and as his side’s best defender, he will need to curtail a slew of raiding efforts his side will encounter in unison with the other 6 defenders the side has on board.
