Rafa Benitez: Newcastle confirm departure of their manager from St. James Park

Newcastle United have confirmed that their manager Rafa Benitez’s exit from the club.

Newcastle United have confirmed the departure of their manager Rafa Benitez. The Spaniard has refused to extend his contract until the ownership change, which has vanished in recent days.

The former Liverpool manager was longing for the Middle-East owners, but the deal did not get materialized. This has forced the 59-year-old to back out from his role, although gaining adulation from the supporters – who are wailing over his exit.

In a statement released by the club, it read the following:

It is with disappointment that we announce manager Rafael Benítez will leave Newcastle United upon the expiry of his contract on 30th June 2019.

We have worked hard to extend Rafa’s contract over a significant period of time, however it has not been – and will not be – possible to reach an agreement with Rafa and his representatives.

Rafa’s coaching staff, Paco de Míguel Moreno, Antonio Gómez Pérez and Mikel Antia, will also leave the club on 30th June.

We would like to thank Rafa and his coaching team for their efforts over the last three years and their significant contribution to what has been collectively achieved.

We would also like to thank our supporters, players and staff for their patience during a period of uncertainty.

The process to appoint a successor will now begin.

After the season, Rafa refused to speak about his future as it would be out of respect to Newcastle United. It is surmised about an offer from China for the 59-year-old. Previously, French media stated about Lyon’s interest on the Spaniard, as the club confirmed the exit of the current manager Bruno Genesio.

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

This will come as a huge loss for the club, who punched above their weight since his arrival. The fans are craving for ownership change and wanted to keep hold of Rafa Benitez at any cost. But, the vice versa has occurred.
