Rahul and Pandya receive show cause notice

Rahul and Pandya receive show cause notice: Both the Indian cricketers have landed in trouble for their comments on a talk show.

India opening batsman Lokesh Rahul and all-rounder Hardik Pandya have landed in trouble post their comments on the renowned talk show Koffee With Karan. The Committee of Administrators has issued a show cause notice to the pair, seeking an explanation within 24 hours regarding their comments on women on the talk show.

The duo was seen discussing about cheerleaders and losing their virginity on the talk show. What came as objectionable was the way in which some of their statements were constructed.

For international cricketers, who are considered as role models to many youngsters, one expects them to speak with more responsibility on such a public platform. Their comments on a serious matter like respecting women didn’t go down well with the viewers and rightly so.

After a furore on social media, Pandya took to Twitter to offer an apology in the morning. However, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) refused to accept the same.

“We have sent show cause notices to Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul for their comments. They have given 24 hours to give an explanation,” CoA chief Vinod Rai said.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, a senior BCCI official slammed Pandya for his ‘unacceptable’ conduct. “This attempt at an apology does in no way bring the issue to closure. This merely shows how lightly he takes the gravely serious issue of respecting women. His conduct was unacceptable.

“He needs to understand the impact the utterances of an international cricketer have in this country but more importantly he needs to learn how to differentiate between the right and the wrong. Right now he seems to merely respond to the outrage and not to his own thought process and conduct,” the BCCI official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Former BCCI General Manager Ratnakar Shetty took to Twitter to criticize the Indian pair’s comments. Calling Pandya a disgrace to the cricketing committee, Shetty said that the BCCI should take corrective steps for cricketers who talk rubbish on public platform.

Apart from Shetty, Pandya’s comments received severe criticism on the social media. Read some of the latest Twitter reactions on the same below:
