Ramos responds to doping claims: Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has finally broke silence over the doping claims.

Times have been bad for Real Madrid so far. The side conceded their first eve r league loss to Eibar earlier today. Eibar thumped Real Madrid 3-0.

However, Real Madrid have also been in headlines for the alleged doping scandal surrounding captain Sergio Ramos. The defender has been accused of breaching the anti-doping regulations, according to the report by German publication Der Spiegel.

The Madrid captain, publication says, returned a positive test for the glucocorticoid dexamethasone after the 2017 Champions League final in Cardiff. However, no action was taken, and it was later deemed to be an ‘administrative mistake.’

Sergio Ramos has now given his side of the story.

Ramos responds to doping claim:

The Real Madrid captain has stated that he is innocent and has played the game in positive spirit. He also attacked the German magazine in a detailed statement.

“That is a very difficult issue, complicated,” Ramos began. “I must come out and defend myself, with  my legal team, against these allegations. I have been through 250 or 300 doping tests over my career, and never failed one, there has never been any irregularity.”

Ramos also attacked the German magazine.

“We know the type of publication this is. They threatened us with the news a month and a half ago. When you know the truth, you are not afraid of lies. It is an attempt to stain my image and my professional reputation.”

Earlier, the club also released a detailed statement on the controversy, and backed their captain, stating that he never breached the anti-doping regulations.

“With regards to the reports published by Der Spiegel in relation to our captain, Sergio Ramos, the club wishes to express the following:

“Sergio Ramos has never breached anti-doping regulations.

“UEFA requested specific information and immediately closed the case referred to, as is customary in such instances, following tests carried out by experts from the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) and UEFA itself.”
