Ravi Shastri believes Virat Kohli has matured tremendously

Ravi Shastri believes Virat Kohli has matured tremendously: The Indian coach was wax lyrical about the Indian captain in an interview.

The recently concluded successful tour of Australia will go down as a groundbreaking one for the Indian cricket. After drawing the T20I series 1-1, India won the Test series 2-1 and the subsequent ODI series with the same score.

The fact that India registered a Test and a bilateral ODI series victory for the first time in their cricketing history on the Australian soil in itself speaks about the massiveness of the achievement.

Speaking during the post-match presentation, India captain Virat Kohli reflected on the team’s performance on the tour starting from the T20I series in November. “It’s been an amazing tour for us. We drew the T20 series, won the Test and the ODI series. If someone gave me these results before the tour I would have taken it with both hands.

“I am really grateful and proud of the side. It was a collective effort. We are feeling confident and balanced as a side with the World Cup in mind. Few games against New Zealand and few more back home to strengthen the areas that we need to work on as a team,” Kohli was quoted as saying.

Kohli might not have topped the batting charts on this tour but this tour will be remembered as witnessing his immense growth as a leader. Not that he didn’t contribute with the bat at all, he scored two crucial centuries across formats but the sight of him lifting trophies will remain in the hearts of the Indian fans.

In a recent interview with former England captain Michael Vaughan for The Telegraph, India Coach Ravi Shastri also laid emphasis on Kohli maturing on the tour. “He has matured tremendously,” the coach said of his captain.

“When I told the Aussie media he is the perfect gentleman, they were shocked. On the field is one thing, but come off the field and meet him, he is one of the most pleasant and normal blokes you could ever meet. He is very caring with his team-mates and just a fantastic role model. I am lucky to be part of the dressing room and to see the greatest player in the world,” Shastri added.
